KENNETT, Mo. (News First) – The Kennett School District has canceled classes and all extracurricular activities for Monday, September 16th while administration and authorities investigate an alleged threat towards the high school. Kennett Schools Superintendent Dr. Richie Leeker shared a letter on Sunday (Sept 15th), stating school will be closed out of an abundance of caution.

“Our top priority is the safety and security of our staff and students. We are grateful for the quick response of our local law enforcement agencies and will continue to monitor the situation and provide information as we are able,” the letter reads.

Kennett is the latest in a growing list of districts in the News First coverage area to receive threats. Jackson, Bismarck, North County, Farmington, Steelville, and Potosi are among the districts that have addressed alleged threats in the past couple of weeks. None have been credible.
