ST LOUIS (News First) – The St. Louis Cardinals not only shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday night but they did it by also defeating Paul Skenes, the Pirates rookie sensation starting pitcher. The final was 4-0. Skenes pitched pretty well. He gave up just one run in 6 innings of work. He gave up 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 7 Cardinal batters. The rookie is now 10-3 on the season. Two of those losses were to the Cardinals. Skenes ended up losing the game because St. Louis starter Andre’ Pallante was just a little bit better. Pallante did not let a runner past first base through his first six innings. In all, he threw 7 innings, gave up 0 runs on 4 hits, walked one and struck out nine. Cards and Pirates play again Tuesday night in St. Louis.
