SOUTHEAST MISSOURI (News First) – You still have time to schedule some fall camping before the US Forest Service shuts down most of the campgrounds they manage in Southeast Missouri. Forest Ranger Becky Ewing explains why most of their campgrounds can not be used year-round.
Another year-round beautiful place to camp is Bell Mountain Wilderness which encompasses 9,143 acres. It’s part of the St. Francois Mountains and it is one of the oldest landforms in North America. Bell Mountain Wilderness is located south of Banner in Iron County between ‘A’ Highway and ‘O’ Highway. Hazel Creek Campground in Washington County near Palmer is also a year-round primitive camping site.
