ST LOUIS (News First) – Former Rays General Manager and Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom will become president of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2026. Current president John Mozaliek will be reassigned after the final year of his contract ends in 2025. Bloom joined the Redbirds organization in January as an advisor. He has signed a five-year contract for the new position. Bloom spent much of this season evaluating prospects and advising the staff on player acquisitions.
The Cards finished 71-91 last year and 83-79 this season, but failed to reach the postseason the past two years. Mozeliak, who has expressed he wouldn’t remain in his current role beyond the end of his contract, will be focused on helping the organization shift to a younger player lineup.
Mozeliak has held his role since 2007. He helped the Cards become one of the National League’s most consistently dominant and model franchises after winning the 2011 World Series and helped reacquire slugger Albert Pujols in 2022 after he left to play for the Anaheim Angels for a decade.
Ace pitcher Paul Goldschmidt, who is 37, is about to become a free agent for the first time and is open to returning to the Cardinals. The seven-time All-Star and 2022 National League MVP says a variety of factors would decide where he plays next season, including a chance at competing for the World Series trophy.
