FARMINGTON, Ky. (News First) — Graves County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Farmington Street Tuesday morning in an attempt to serve a felony warrant on 37-year-old Anthony L. Turner.
Turner, wanted on a Graves Circuit Court bench warrant for charges including trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of firearms by a felon, refused to exit the residence. Turner sent messages indicating he was armed and threatened to use a firearm.
Authorities established a perimeter around the home to prevent Turner from fleeing into nearby areas. After hours of negotiations, trained negotiators from the Graves and McCracken County Sheriff’s Offices convinced Turner to surrender peacefully at approximately 3:20 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Turner was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for evaluation before being transferred to an out-of-county detention facility. In addition to the previous charges, Turner faces new charges of resisting arrest and first-degree criminal trespass. Authorities confirmed the home Turner was barricaded in did not belong to him, and he did not have permission to be there.
Though Farmington Elementary School was not in danger, officials notified school administrators and bus route managers of the nearby law enforcement activity as a precaution.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Negotiator teams for their assistance, as well as Mayfield-Graves County EMS for their standby support during the incident.
