VIBURNUM, Mo. (News First) – It had been five years since the Viburnum Blue Jays baseball team played on their home field but that streak ended Wednesday evening. The last five seasons, Viburnum did not have enough players to field a baseball team but this fall season, 13 wanted to play ball, so the team was brought back from the dead. The Blue Jays only have a handful of games during this comeback fall season. Wednesday’s game against Newburg was the only game the Jays will get to play at home, so that game was also Senior Night. Two 2025 graduates and their parents were honored before the game. Coach Kyle Douglas tells us about Kaleb Gamblin.
We also spoke to Kayshe Gamblin after the game, that’s Kaleb’s mom. She had mixed emotions after her son played his only home baseball game of his career.
The other Viburnum senior recognized prior to Wednesday’s game at Baker’s Field is Tony Boesing (BO-sing). Coach Douglas will miss Tony too.
The Viburnum Blue Jays are 0-3 in their fall season with five more games still to be played, all on the road. The Jays’ next baseball game is Monday afternoon, October 7th at Bismarck. Viburnum High School also wanted to give a shoutout and thank you to Jacob Clements and his family for volunteering and doing some beautification projects the previous year to the dugouts and concession area at the ballpark.
