MELBER, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2024) – Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 1 troopers have arrested two Graves County residents for manslaughter after an investigation into the death of a young child.
On June 17th, 2024 troopers responded to a residence on KY-849 in Graves County for the report of a two year old child who was unresponsive after being found in a backyard pool. Troopers and other first responders attempted life-saving measures; however, the child was pronounced deceased after being transported to an area hospital. A joint investigation between KSP detectives and the Department of Community Based Services (DCBS) was conducted into the circumstances of the child’s death, as well as the conditions of other children who resided in the home.
On October 3rd, 2024 the facts of the investigation were presented to the Graves County Grand Jury. Nathaniel Purcell, the father of the deceased child, and Courtney Amacher, Purcell’s girlfriend who also resides in the home, were both indicted for multiple offenses stemming from the investigation. On October 11th, 2024 both individuals were arrested in accordance with the indictment warrants.
Nathaniel Purcell, 27 years old of Melber, KY was charged with Manslaughter 2nd Degree, seven counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, four counts of Criminal Abuse 2nd Degree – Child 12 or Under, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Courtney Amacher, 26 years old of Melber, KY was charged with Manslaughter 2nd Degree, seven counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, four counts of Criminal Abuse 2nd Degree – Child 12 or Under, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
