CENTERVILLE, Mo. (News First) – An important deadline is approaching for high school and middle school students. Veterans of Foreign Wars offers significant college scholarship opportunities from the local level, all the way up to the national level, which includes a $35,000 scholarship for one student who stands out above the rest in this yearly competition hosted by the V.F.W. Randy Tolliver of Reynolds County is the Junior Vice Commander for V.F.W. District 8 and he’s a member of Post 6660 in Centerville. He provides some of the details about these two educational contests.
We asked Tolliver if home-schooled students can participate in these essay contests.
Once again, students can download the 2024-2025 entry form by going to vfw.org. A winner will be selected from each local V.F.W. with scholarships handed out. But the farther you advance, the more scholarship money that student will receive. Last year, close to 25,000 high school students participated and almost 69,000 middle school students. Sophia Lin, a high schooler from Arizona was the overall winner of the Voice of Democracy contest. Middle schooler Bryant Day from Ohio was the overall winner in the Patriot’s Pen Essay contest.
