DESLOGE, Mo. (News First) – The Desloge Board of Aldermen made a decision regarding the Desloge Fire Department at Monday night’s meeting. Mayor Pete Pasternak appreciates the decision.

“The decision was made by the Board of Aldermen to transition our fire chief to a full-time position now,” Pasternak says. “That’s great news for Delos and all the other neighboring areas that are served by the Delos Fire Department because we’re going to have someone in the firehouse during working hours every day now. You know, generally I don’t say it’s a constant problem, but sometimes with your volunteer fire department, your volunteer firefighters are also working and sometimes that’s the hardest times sometimes to get someone to respond to calls. So now that we have someone in there full time, that should help that issue.”

Mayor Pasternak says this was made possible thanks to Desloge residents who went to the polls to vote recently.

“I’m glad to see that we’re finally able to make that happen because I think that’s great for public service and Delos and the surrounding areas. When Prop P was passed, that was one of the things that we said we could hopefully do and we’re finally able to do it. So I’m just ecstatic that was finally able to happen. It’s going to be happening soon, November 1st. He’ll be starting our fire chief, Jared Metter. He’s going to be the one that fills that role as our full-time fire chief, too,” Pasternak adds.

In other news from this week’s Desloge City Council meeting, discussion took place on improving the sidewalks on Lincoln Street, such as looking for grants or other similar ways to make that project happen. No decision was made at the meeting. Salt was approved to be purchased which will be used when city streets become snowy or icy this winter. The Desloge council also approved a bid to have the City’s website updated. Also, the council’s impeachment talk against Mayor Pasternak from previous meetings was not brought up at this week’s meeting.
