BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. (News First) – A woman from Poplar Bluff is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Butler County Tuesday morning. The highway patrol says the accident took place on Highway ‘B’, two miles east of Poplar Bluff when a 2024 Nissan Altima driven by 43-year-old Chuck A. Bailey of Poplar Bluff ran off the left side of the road and ended up striking a pedestrian, 27-year-old Topanga Thompson. Bailey’s car then struck a tree. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. That was the 55th traffic fatality in 2024 for Troop E of the highway patrol.
