Fredericktown, Mo (News First) – The Fredericktown Fire Department has issued a serious warning regarding the ongoing fire at Critical Mineral Recovery, a lithium-ion battery processing plant, along Highway OO in Fredericktown.

“We urge citizens to SHELTER IN PLACE INDOORS if you are in the smoke plume resulting from the industrial fire at 815 HWY OO. Close windows, doors, and turn off window AC systems. The ONLY evacuation order is for residents on Madison County Road 277. Again, if you see smoke stay indoors. Current modeling attached to this post, for this incident, shows smoke moving to the north of the fire.” according to the department.

Explosions have also been reported across the facility. The plume of smoke, which is considered toxic, is moving north and into portions of St. Francois County as well. According to the smoke model provided by the fire department, the smoke plume is in both Madison and St. Francois counties. News First will have more information on this story as it develops.
