DENT COUNTY, Mo. (News First) – There are only two locally contested races on Tuesday’s election ballot in Dent County but there are several contested statewide races and one big national race Dent Countians can help decide. Luke Turnbough takes a look.

One of the local races is for state representative of the 120th District which covers all of Dent and Crawford counties. The winner will replace Ron Copeland who currently holds the position. There are two running and they are both from Crawford County. The republican is John Hewkin from Cuba and the democrat is Jen Tracy of Bourbon.

There’s a contested race for U.S. Representative in Missouri’s 8th District. That seat is currently held by Dent County’s own republican Jason Smith. Smith has apparently moved to another location within the district. He has a Cape Girardeau address now. Smith is being challenged by democrat Randi McCallian from Edgar Springs and libertarian candidate Jake Dawson who has a St. Louis address.

Dent County voters will also help decide the race for president of the United States. Statewide contested races Dent Countians can help decide are for governor, secretary of state, state treasurer and state attorney general. Dent County voters will also have several votes to either retain or not retain some judges in the state.

Dent County voters will also help decide five statewide constitutional amendments and one statewide proposition that will be on Tuesday’s election ballot.
