FARMINGTON, Mo. (News First) – Show-Me Live and News First had wall-to-wall election coverage with reporters at a few local courthouses, one of our anchors broadcast out of Washington D.C. and we even had a reporter in California, talking about the presidential race. Luke Turnbough was at the Washington County Courthouse in Potosi where the vote count went very smoothly.
And it was a clean sweep for Republicans in all of our local counties in southeast Missouri. For local contested races and issues, the closest of all the local races came out of Ste. Genevieve County. It was for both associate commissioner seats. For commissioner in District 1, Cory Ford received 2,972 votes to Democrat Karen Stuppy’s 1,946. For Ste. Gen County Associate Commissioner in District 2, it was just a 163 vote difference as Republican Mark Marberry garnered 2,311 votes to 2,148 for Brent Geile. In Iron County for Associate Commissioner in the Southern District, Dustin Hinkle defeated Denise Bates. with over 72% of the vote.
In St. Francois County, Kary Buckley wins another term as commissioner in District 1. He received almost 77% of the vote over T.J. Benoist. Also, Proposition A for the City of Park Hills passed easily with 71.2% voting for the measure. In Reynolds County, the countywide sales tax proposal was defeated by just 55 votes unofficially and there were 139 undervotes which may have made a difference if those voters had not left that question blank. For Reynolds County Assessor, Travis Hills defeats David Brawley with almost 69% of the vote. In Dent County, the Senior Homestead Property Tax question easily passed with over 75% voting in favor of the issue. For sheriff in Madison County, Nic Adams wins with 72% of the vote over Wendell Bellew. Also, Madison County’s countywide question passes with nearly 89% voting in favor of the issue. Wayne County and Bollinger had zero local contested races or issues on their ballots.
