IRON COUNTY, Mo. (News First) – The Iron County government was busy finishing up the courthouse rehabilitation project this year but the County was also able to see other projects accomplished in 2024. Iron County Road and Bridge Department was also busy in 2024, improving and maintaining roads, along with other projects. Presiding Commissioner Jim Scaggs tells us about a project he was happy to see get finished this year.

“Ronny Chandler, the Western District Commissioner, oversaw the project,” Scaggs says. “It was on County Road 53. It was a grant that we were able to get through the MoDOT Bridge Program. So that bridge was about a $600,000 construction. We had to pay about 20% of that through our soft match program that we have. So that bridge was completed and opened up around the 1st of September, and it turned out to be a fantastic project for us.”

The Iron County Road and Bridge Department is responsible for 250 miles of maintained county roads. The county has two road and bridge facilities, there’s one in Arcadia on Main Street and the other is located west of Banner off Highway 32.
