FARMINGTON, Mo. (News First) – There will be an increase in traffic over the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s one of the busiest travel times, with Wednesday and Sunday afternoons and evenings being the most heavily traveled times. Drivers should expect more traffic and the possibility of some delays. Last year’s Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash count in Missouri had 9 people killed and 4,823 injured in 1,342 traffic crashes. If you do travel this Thanksgiving, buckle up and don’t use your phone when driving. Don’t speed, do not drive aggressively and do not drive impaired. The MODOT Traveler Information Map can be a helpful tool for travelers.

The map provides up-to-date information such as road closures, delays, construction zones and alternative routes. And If you plan on being on or near the water during Thanksgiving week and weekend, remember water is becoming colder and hypothermia is always a concern. The body loses heat 25 times faster in water than in the air of the same temperature. Also, wear life jackets and boat drivers, do not drink alcohol. Motorists and boaters can call the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Emergency Report Line at 800-525-5555 or Star 55 on your cell phone.
