ARCADIA VALLEY, Mo. (News First) – A mild upset in the final and only first-round game played last (Tuesday) night in the 98th Arcadia Valley Boys Thanksgiving Tournament. Show-Me Live Sports broadcast from Ironton once again last (Tuesday) night. 5-seed Lesterville advanced to the semifinals after defeating the host school and 4-seed Arcadia Valley 62-40. The Bearcats will face a large task tonight (Wed) as they have to play the 1-seed South Iron Panthers. We asked coach McMurry how he and his Lesterville squad will approach this big game.
One consolation bracket game was also played last (Tuesday) night as the Ellington Whippets improved to 1-1 after they got past Clearwater 61-53. Ellington’s Brock Morey has put up a total of 77 points in his first two tournament games. He had 33 last (Tuesday) night. Clearwater is the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. The Tigers are 0-3 but first-year coach Heath Ayers says he saw some good things from his team and he also saw aspects of the game his boys will work on now that they can practice for a few days before their next game at Puxico next Tuesday night.
Show-Me Live Sports also broadcast a bonus girls’ game. It was the home opener for the A.V. Lady Tigers who defeated Bismarck 64-56. The Lady Tigers are 2-0 and the Lady Indians fall to 1-1. Tonight (Wednesday), Show-Me Live Sports will bring you coverage of three more games from the Turkey Tournament. Two of the three are the tournament semifinals as it is Black River League versus Black River League as first-seed South Iron plays fifth-seed Lesterville at about 6:30. The other semifinal game is the MAAA Conference versus the MAAA Conference as second-seed West County plays third-seed Fredericktown. That one will tentatively start at 8 o’clock. In other boys hoops from last (Tuesday) night, Dixon dropped Steelville to 0-2 with a 75-64 win, Jackson edged Owensville in their season opener at home 57-55, Valley of Caledonia is now 2-0 after beating Bourbon 82-30, Scott City downed Meadow Heights 80-59, Licking edged Salem 72-69 and East Carter defeated Summersville 54-39.
In girls’ hoops from last (Tuesday) night, Desoto improves to 2-0 after escaping Grandview with a 36-35 win, Jackson defeats Nerinx Hall 57-38, Licking downs Salem 52-22, Cuba with Viburnum fell to St. Elizabeth 66-38 and East Carter gets past Twin Rivers 59-56.
