FARMINGTON, Mo. (News First) – The City of Farmington plans to close a portion of West Columbia Street on Tuesday, December 10th at 9 a.m. to remove a dead tree. There will be detour signs to provide alternate routes during the project. The road is expected to re-open at approximately 3 p.m. the same day. Work will continue along the roadside on December 11th and 12th. Columbia Street will be open during this time but flaggers may be present for traffic safety.

In Perry County, Missouri and Randolph County, Illinois, contractor crews continue to do construction work on the Chester Bridge over the Mississippi River. They are constructing a new bridge that spans the Mississippi River, connecting the city of Chester, Illinois to Perry County and Ste. Genevieve County via Route 51 in Missouri and Illinois Route 150. This is an ongoing project and motorists are asked to use extreme caution when traveling through the area. Large trucks and equipment will be utilized and will need to access the worksite. The project completion date is December 2026.

A portion of Route 51/72 in Bollinger County will be getting some construction work. The proposed project will see the construction of a roundabout at the Highway 51/72 intersection in Patton. Currently, the intersection has a stop light on 51 with traffic on 72 moving freely. MODOT says roundabouts allow traffic to flow with little to no stopping, resulting in calmer traffic and reducing the likelihood of severe crashes. Tentatively, the project is expected to be let for bids in January 2025 and construction could begin as early as March 2025. Completion is anticipated for the winter of 2025.
