MADISON COUNTY, MO (News First) – Hunters, especially new hunters, do not overlook hunting for small game. Madison County Conservation Agent Alan Lamb says this type of hunting can be a stepping stone for the novice hunter.
“Missouri has so many opportunities to get young kids out in the outdoors,” Lamb says. “Everyone tends to think about deer and turkey and those are our big game species, if you will, in Missouri. But rabbit and squirrel hunting doesn’t need to be overlooked. That’s a great way to start cutting your teeth, so to speak, as a new hunter. And you’re exactly right. Great way to learn firearm handling skills and also target acquisition.”
Rabbit and squirrel seasons in Missouri both run through February 15th.
