SALEM, MO (News First) – Eleven fire departments responded to a commercial fire call at about 4:30 this (Tuesday) morning in Salem. Scenic River Industries which houses the Dent County Sheltered Workshop on Walker Street looks to be a total loss. No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, the Dent County Toy Drive had been storing their donated children’s Christmas gifts in the building. Toys for about 130 kids were lost in the fire.
Those toys were supposed to have been taken to The National Guard Armory in Salem to be distributed later this week. Organizers estimate around $13,000 worth of toys went up in flames. If you would like to donate money, an account has been set up at the Bank of Salem. Toy donations can be made to the Salem Chamber of Commerce at 1136 South Main Street.
