JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (NewsFirst) — Missouri communities with historic properties can apply for grants to help preserve them.

The Missouri State Historic Preservation Office announced Monday that it has opened another 2024 application cycle for Historic Preservation Fund grants. The program expects to bring over $200,000 from the federal fund to Missouri.

The grants can be used for projects that relate to the identification, evaluation or protection of historic properties, such as training, workshops, walking tours, preservation plans, surveys and nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.

The grants cannot be used for physical construction or repair work, museum exhibits or archeological digs.

Certified local governments, county governmental entities, municipalities and nonprofit organizations with a historic preservation mission are eligible to apply. Applications from certified local governments will be given priority.

David Kelly, director of Missouri State Parks, said the grants help provide opportunities for the preservation of important cultural and historic resources in the state.

The deadline to submit a pre-application is Jan. 5. For more information, visit mostateparks.com/page/84331/historic-preservation-fund-grants or contact the State Historic Preservation Office at 573-751-7958 or moshpo@dnr.mo.gov.
