MARION, IL (NewsFirst) – A man armed with a knife robbed a convenience store in Marion, on Tuesday night and was then later arrested by police, authorities said.

The Marion Police Department said in a news release that officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the ROC One Stop on East DeYoung Street around 7:46 p.m. The store clerk told police that a male suspect had displayed a knife and demanded money before fleeing the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police searched the area and deployed K-9 units to track the suspect. They located a man matching the suspect’s description near Lincoln School and detained him for questioning. The man, identified as 28-year-old Demarco V. Stokes of Belvidere, Illinois, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated robbery, armed robbery and aggravated assault. Police said they recovered a knife and the stolen money from Stokes.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the news release.
