METROPOLIS, ILLINOIS (NewsFirst) — The Massac County Historical Society will be hosting an open house on December 3rd from 1 to 4 pm.

The holiday open house will have door prizes and refreshments.

The house is being decorated for Christmas by the Metropolis Garden Club.

Donations are always welcome. The house is located at 405 Market Street.

The house of Elijah P. Curtis is owned and managed by the Massac County Historical Society which operates under the name of Massac County Historical Museum.

The museum consists of several exhibits, furnishings, artifacts and documents that belonged to Major Elijah P. Curtis. The brick structure has been well preserved and restored to its original appearance.

This historic house museum is also on the list of the National Register of Historic places. The museum conducts special tours for which prior appointment is needed.

Other activities will be held in Metropolis December 2nd.

The Annual Tree Lighting from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Superman Square.
