FRANKFORT, Ky. (News First) – Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman underwent a double mastectomy on Monday after concerns were raised during a recent routine physical exam. Coleman, who has a significant family history of cancer, made the decision to undergo the procedure. She reported that the surgery was successful and that she expects to make a full recovery.
“I want to thank the health-care heroes for the compassionate care I continue to receive,” Coleman said. “I am more appreciative than I can articulate for your expertise and your kindness through this process.”
Coleman expressed gratitude for her loving and supportive family, a compassionate friend in Gov. Beshear, and a top-notch staff. She also urged people to schedule preventative exams, hug their loved ones a little tighter, and be kind to others.
Coleman is Kentucky’s highest elected teacher and serves as the state’s Lieutenant Governor. She said that serving in this role is the honor of her life.
Governor Beshear issued the following statement regarding Lt Governor Coleman: “Britainy and I fully expect the Lieutenant Governor to make a full recovery,” Gov. Beshear said. “She is our friend and a critical part of Team Kentucky. My family and Kentucky families are standing with her during this time. I join the Lieutenant Governor in encouraging Kentuckians to be proactive about their health and to schedule preventative exams.”
