CARBONDALE, Ill. (News First) — A Carbondale woman has been arrested on more than one arson charge after a motel fire. According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers from the City of Carbondale Police Department and Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Heritage Motel located at 1209 West Main Street on December 12th. Firefighters extinguished the flames, and no injuries were reported.
During the investigation, detectives and arson investigators determined that the fire was allegedly intentionally set and identified the suspect as Rebecca L. Grant, a 36-year-old resident of Carbondale. Investigators arrested Grant on Tuesday. She now faces charges of Aggravated Arson, Residential Arson, Endangering the Life or Health of a Child, and Obstructing Justice.
Grant is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail. Police say the investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence related to the incident.
