BOLLINGER AND CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MISSOURI (NewsFirst) —
On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., the Cape Girardeau Police Department received a report of shots fired and two (2) victims struck near 2161 William (CVS Pharmacy). Officers arrived on the scene and located two (2) victims with gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to an area hospital for their injuries.
The Cape Girardeau / Bollinger County Major Case Squad has been activated and are investigating.

The Cape Girardeau / Bollinger County Major Case Squad identified a person of interest in this incident. At approximately 8:00 p.m. officers located a vehicle believed to be occupied by the suspect. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle near Woodbine and Themis and a pursuit ensued.
After a short pursuit, the vehicle stopped in the roadway near Pindwood and Whitener and three (3) individuals ran from the vehicle. Officers apprehended two (2) of the subjects and were taken into custody pending formal charges.

The Cape Girardeau / Bollinger County Major Case Squad identified the victims as a seventeen (17) year old juvenile female (deceased) and a fifty-three (53) year old male with non-life threatening injuries.
On February 28, 2024, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office formally charged Treโmarion Jones (20) of Cape Girardeau with Class A felony murder in the first degree, felony armed criminal action Xโs 3, Class A felony of unlawful use of a weapon, Class A felony assault in the first degree and Class E felony of resisting an arrest. Jones is currently being held on a no-bond warrant.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office formally charged Zhamius Smith (20) of Caruthersville, MO with Class E felony of hindering prosecution and Class E felony of resisting a lawful stop. Smith is currently being held with a no-bond warrant.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office formally charged Yaunique Cain (21) of Cape Girardeau with Class E felony of tampering with physical evidence. Cain is currently being held with a no-bond warrant.
