PADUCAH, Ky. (News First) — In a Region 1 semifinal marred by controversial calls, Tilghman High School narrowly defeated Marshall High School 5-4 on Tuesday night. The game featured numerous hits, errors, interference calls, and a chaotic ending that left fans and players in disbelief.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Marshall was on the verge of a dramatic comeback. The Marshall batter struck out for the second out, bringing the game to a tense moment. The next batter worked the count to 3-2 before taking what appeared to be an obvious ball four, a pitch that the catcher had to block.
However, the home plate umpire signaled strike three, indicating that the batter had swung. Despite the apparent walk that would have tied the game, the umpires abruptly walked off the field, ending the game.
Players, coaches, and spectators were left stunned by the abrupt conclusion, an unexpected end to a hard-fought tournament game.
Tilghman will face McCracken in the finals tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
