An Amtrak train was derailed just after 5 pm on Monday (July 8th) after a tree fell onto the tracks near Washington, MO. Show Me Live first reported the news live on air while covering the severe weather.
Amtrak says the train traveling from Kansas City to Chicago derailed near Old Highway 100 and Ming Drive. The derailment happened near the Missouri River which was under a flood warning due to Tropical Storm Beryl.
None of the 124 passengers or five crew members were injured. All cars remained upright during the incident. The power was knocked out of the train but has since been restored.
Boles Professional Firefighters Local 2665 assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol with the incident. Passengers were sent to the Kirkwood Amtrak station where they were bussed to their destination.
