DESLOGE, Mo (News First) – The City of Desloge held a special meeting on August 12th about the impeachment of Mayor Pete Pasternak. The high-tension session included Pasternak questioning the legality of the process with residents also voicing their concerns.
The city attorney advised the board in June that he removed himself from serving during the impeachment process. In return, the city must pass an ordinance to hire special counsel to continue the process. Pasternak stated the board did not follow city code or state law about the ordinance during a July meeting and agreed with a law firm by voicing a vote.
The eight articles state Pasternak failed to follow proper procedures when surveying and submitting potential storm damage, including driving while intoxicated and not being authorized to survey the damage. He has also been accused of showing animosity towards staff members, causing bad morale, and accused of not appropriately responding to or passing along citizen complaints to city employees and officials, among other accusations.
The trial has been set for August 22nd at 4 pm with all board members approving, except for Alderman Debra Kester.
