VIBURNUM, Mo (News First) – Viburnum Lady Blue Jays volleyball team was victorious in their home opener. It was a nice rebound from Viburnum’s first match of the season. The Jays dropped 3-straight games to Lesterville last Thursday but the opposite occurred for the Lady Jays Tuesday evening. The Jays knocked off the Kingston Lady Cougars in three straight. Show-Me Live Sports spoke to Viburnum’s coach Nikki Doss after the game.
Viburnum had some strong play in front of the net, with some timely spikes and blocks from two seniors, Natalie Wigger and Lexi Harris, along with sophomore Jadelyn Barton.
The Blue Jays volleyball team was already facing adversity and the season hadn’t even began. On August 24th, Viburnum senior Chloe Brooks, who was expected to be a big contributor for the team, received serious injuries in a car crash just outside of town, ending her final high school season before it even began.
News First Sports also talked to the Kingston coach after the game. Erica Hankins praised the Viburnum squad.
We asked Coach Hankins if she saw some things from Tuesday’s game that she could correct in the Cougars’ upcoming practices.
Both teams return to the court Thursday evening. 1-1 Viburnum will be in Bunker to face the Lady Eagles who won their season opener Tuesday night in a hard-fought 5-game battle against Summersville. 0-1 Kingston will stay on the road Thursday evening. They will be in Bourbon to play the 1-0 Warhawks.
