PADUCAH, Ky. โ A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a nighttime blockage of the U.S. 60 to eastbound I-24 ramp in McCracken County next week to conduct part of an ongoing Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP). The project will apply a high-friction pavement coating to improve motorists safety along the interstate and other routes in District 1 in the coming weeks. The ramp from U.S. 60 (Hinkleville Road) to Interstate 24 in Paducah will be blocked from 7 p.m. on Monday, September 16 through 8 a.m. the following morning to allow crews to apply an epoxy coating and layer of granite chips. This creates a more course roadway surface, which engineers say improves friction and grip in areas that see an elevated number of wet-weather crashes. Work is being completed overnight in order to reduce the impact on motorists. The schedule is subject to change depending on the weather. This is one of four locations the KYTC plans to apply this treatment as part of this HSIP. The other locations will not require the roadway to be blocked, but will need lane restrictions once work begins.
