IRONTON, Mo. (News First) – A man from Ironton lost his life in the floodwaters Monday afternoon in Iron County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place at Iron County Road 42 at Knob Creek in Ironton when a 66-year-old man attempted to drive his 2007 Ford Focus across the flooded bridge. His car was swept off the bridge by the raging floodwaters, the vehicle then floated about a half mile downstream before coming to rest. The Iron County man was pronounced dead at the scene by Iron County Coroner Tim Harbison. This is the third drowning of the year for Troop E of the highway patrol.
