DESLOGE, Mo. (News First) – The strangest of things happened at Monday night’s Desloge City Council meeting. For over a month, the majority of the council was hell-bent on impeaching Mayor Pete Pasternak. But at this week’s meeting, the tide for the mayor turned for the better.

“The board of Alder finally came around and they voted 42 to end it. And so I’m just glad that it’s over, it’s a big relief. And just to move forward and look forward to working with everyone again and just try to keep Delos moving in the right direction. So we got a lot of good things going right now and we just want to see Delos progress even further,” Pasternak tells us.

Changing their minds not to impeach were city council members Travis Crews,  Mark Bonney and Linda Moore. They joined the only council member who has always been against impeaching the mayor.

“Alderman Debbie Kester, she had never voted in favor of it, but three of them did change last night. And I’m just glad that it’s over and, you know, we can just move forward. Now we have an election coming up here. It’ll be about four and a half months and just let the voters decide. I had a lot of support from the residents of Delos and I just don’t, you know, I can’t thank them enough for their support. A lot of them showed up and spoke during public comment. And again, I’m just I’m glad for it to be over and just ready to move forward,” he adds.

The mayor says a lot of time has been wasted and he believes he and the entire Desloge Board of Aldermen need to start getting things accomplished for the citizens.

“I mean, it took up a lot of my time over the past five months going through this. A lot of that time that was put forward to that, I mean, can be put to much better use, in my opinion, to, you know, advancing the lotion,” he states.

The two Desloge council members who voted to continue with the impeachment were Ward I Alderman John Wigger and Ward II Alderwoman Kelly Harris.
