PADUCAH, Ky (News First) – The Paducah Parks and Recreation Department has reopened the gravel section of the Greenway Trail after being closed for safety reasons since late August while contractors worked to prepare the areas adjacent to the trail for the Paducah Sports Park.
Director of Paducah Parks and Recreation Amie Clark said, “The Greenway Trail is an important community asset. While the closure has been inconvenient to many, we appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation while crews worked nearby to prepare the Bluegrass Downs and Stuart Nelson Park properties for the construction of the new Sports Park. We would like to thank A&K Construction and subcontractors on the project for moving quickly and getting the trail open earlier than originally expected.”
Future closures of the gravel trail section are anticipated while crews construct the Paducah Sports Park. The Disc Golf Course at Stuart Nelson Park remains closed to the public.
Please note that along with the 1.5-mile gravel section, the Greenway Trail includes a nearly four-mile concrete section from Noble Park to the riverfront. Also in Noble Park, there is the Peck Education Trail, a wooded trail near the amphitheater. Furthermore, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the McCracken County Trail which is an approximately 1.5-mile trail with a parking area next to the McCracken County Youth Soccer Fields. The Leeper Bridge links the County’s trail to the City’s Greenway Trail.
